I was on twitter and I saw the Garfield trailer. And I'm a big fan of Garfield right.

And I see people on there dissing the movie and the designs?

Yea they ain't totally on model, but you know not everything has to be on model.

Sometimes things can and have to be different.

its a whole different art style this movie is going for, so ofc they're gonna look different.

Like who cares,bc it still looks like them.

idk why do people have to be so pessimistic about stuff people like

can't I just enjoy that thing bc and only bc I like that thing.

And this is case for pretty much everything.

Ik Chris Pratt's wallet is extra fat.
Kinda like Mario and Garfield...

The youngest generations, Millennial onward, have been inundated with pessimism and doom from the moment they could understand language. Negativity is their comfort zone, they would rather be cold and cynical than actually vulnerable because they’re afraid that vulnerability brings danger to them. So they find a random target to attack because they need something to be negative about.

On top of that, due to the same stuff about being raised on the internet, we also have grown to care about pop culture more than real issues.

I don't watch new movies very often but from what I read online, I can't tell if newer movies are getting crappier or if peoples standards are getting higher

Even in the comic strip, Garfield has gone through a ton of design changes, so I don't really see the point in bashing the movie for looking slightly different from what you see in the newspapers. If they just don't like it that's completely fine, but adding to what Thetageist said, it really does feel like the default reaction to anything pop culture related nowadays is to call it "mid" and shit on it relentlessly. I'm pretty cynical about the state of the entertainment industry, but even I think most people go way too far with this sort of thing.

It looks like a typical kid's movie and no different from what the cartoons were like. The animation isn't even bad. I'm lost as to where the complaints are coming from. Honestly, even though nothing is free from criticism, some criticisms I've seen aimed at certain media feels forced and dry. It sometimes feels like people are bored and running out of stuff to be mad about.

@SuperCS Can’t wait for Chris Pratt to play boom monster, now that’s bank, too bad they couldn’t get his spikes right

Now that's a thought. It's like they wouldn't know what to imagine to solve irl problems since the stories they've been told only resolve like fever dreams. I guess all that can be done is to buy into this redigested content instead of complaining and seeking originality. It's not like anyone should exercise immunity to constant remakes, or that there's any justification to a widespread cartoon aversion.
So for real tho, how about a cosmic horror garfield?

We should call him Gorefield

Odie's kinda buggin, but hey, maybe I'll watch it.

It's definitely a product of cynicism--probably from a lot of people who are either jaded by big studios making movies based on long-established franchises--or people who think of these franchises as sacred and hate any new approaches to them.

I'm not immune to this line of thinking--as an example, I've grown to despise Disney's live-action "remakes" of classic animated movies. But when I look at the Garfield movie, I don't have a strong reaction.
If anything, I hope it turns out to be a fun movie. But I don't think I'll go out of my way to watch it.

only thing to ever bother me in garfield adaptions was seeing animated garfield moving his mouth to speak (something that oddly didn't bother me in the live action movies).
that said, it's a me issue.
Odie's plush tongue aside, I fail to see a problem with this adaption so far.

@Katsfire the standards arent being raised, only further twisted into greater levels of nonsensical just so it fits their worldview

The designs aren't bad lol. People on Xitter are just a bunch of Farquaads.
